World Hearing Day

World Hearing Day takes place today, Wednesday 3 March 2021

For the very first time, the World Health Organisation are launching the World Report on Hearing. A document that’s been in the making for quite a few years, which will be used to bring attention to the needs of all people living with, or at risk of hearing loss and ear diseases.

Today’s World Hearing Day has been marked with the theme ‘Hearing Care for All’ and the key focus is to bring much needed government change throughout the world, to highlight the need to integrate ear and hearing care into national health plans.

Within the text of the report, the World Health Organisation highlight the four key messages of the ‘Hearing Care for All’ campaign as follows;

  • The number of people living with unaddressed hearing loss and ear diseases is unacceptable.
  • Timely action is needed to prevent and address hearing loss across the life course.
  • Investing in cost effective interventions will benefit people with hearing loss and bring financial gains to the society.
  • Countries must integrate people-centered ear and hearing care within national health plans for universal health coverage.

Our role at Lion Safety, is to not only highlight and bring attention to the issues, but to support people and workplaces where we can. This year alone we have supplied thousands of workers throughout the UK with hearing protection.

17,000 people in the UK alone suffer deafness, ringing in the ears or other ear conditions caused by excessive noise at work.

As an employer there is a legal requirement to reduce the risk posed to your employees’ health by controlling the noise they are exposed to at work, under the Control of Noise at Work Regulation 2005. If you need any support with rules and regulations surrounding safety in the workplace contact one of our team on 01324 474 744 or by emailing sales@lionsafety.co.uk.

Lion Safety are a key PPE, safety and workwear supplier to many businesses throughout the UK including public sector, private sector and our emergency services. All industries we supply are bound by the same requirement to protect employees hearing, and we’re delighted to offer a huge range of products to support that.
